MARIPOSA MAGIC

An unforgettable gray whale encounter

On the 22nd of February, in the early hours of a misty Southern California morning, I felt the cosmic shift as I made my way back to Baja California Sur. There’s always a divine orchestration at play — when I’m meant to be somewhere, the reasons reveal themselves at the perfect time. I arrived in La Paz, meaning "peace," feeling a deep sense of alignment and gratitude. My friend Carolina met me and AG at the airport, and we set off to explore the land that felt both foreign and familiar. The energy here is palpable — the desert, the sea, the mountains all vibrating with ancient wisdom.

My first six months living in Dana Point, the Dolphin and Whale Watching Capital of the World, were spent blessing and purifying the lands. The whales had been calling me. A year ago, I had discovered the Festival of Whales, which opened on March 1st, the Day of the Humpback Whale. It was serendipitous, as it took place at the same beach where I had regularly held ceremonies, offering Sound Medicine Readings for those seeking a healing.

In honor of the festival's opening ceremony, I returned to the same location just before dusk where I was earlier that morning with my Tokotoko (staff). The Indigenous woman leading the ceremony, a member of the Acjachemen people of Orange County, commented that she had forgotten to bring hers. I replied, "Perhaps that’s why I brought mine." It felt like a symbolic exchange — an invitation to honor the sacred migration of the whales and all of us who are on journeys of transformation. Surfers joined in a ceremonial paddle-out, welcoming the whales and their migration with reverence.

Later, in Magdalena Bay, the magic of whale migration continued. We were welcomed by Pacific white-sided dolphins, and our day unfolded with awe-inspiring encounters, including blue whales and a gray whale that approached us in the afternoon. "She’s coming," I said, as she glided toward our boat. The six of us scrambled in excitement, no longer concerned with boat etiquette as we leaned from side to side, laughing and reverent. She sprayed us, gazed deeply into each of our eyes, and tapped our boat in a gesture of pure affection. The encounter lasted 40 minutes, leaving us all changed.

When it came time to name her, "Mariposa" (butterfly) was suggested — a perfect name for a creature embodying transformation, grace, and light. Mariposa was not only a symbol of migration but of forgiveness. The gray whale’s history with humans is one of profound healing. Once hunted to the brink of extinction, they are now known as the friendliest whales, inviting us into their world with trust and curiosity. In this moment, Mariposa reminded us of the importance of forgiveness and the power of sacred connection.

Meet Mariposa, one who showers you with the sealight of love, rocks your internal waters to release that which has long been held and constricted to transform and welcome delight.

In this season of renewal, rebirth, and transformation, and in honor of the migration of the Gray Whales and this year’s opening ceremony happening today, March 7th, I’m offering Sound Medicine Readings at 50% off with the code MAGDA2025 for those who purchase this month. It would be my honor to support you in shedding old energies and returning to your original sound — just as the whales, butterflies, and all beings do in their sacred journeys.

All my love,

C xx
